All to fit 23-24 inch chest or 3 year old, with one that is a 22 inch chest. They are knitted in vintage 2ply (modern 3ply) and vintage 3ply (modern 4ply). This finer wool gives them a delicate, pretty very retro look. Always work a tension square.

Bairnswear 94: Great vintage knitting pattern for girls dresses age 2-3 years from 1930s. Knitted in in vintage 2ply (modern 3ply) and vintage 3ply (modern 4ply). There are 4 styles. To fit chest 21"-22" length 16-17" but is adjustable, look great with tights of little trousers, very 'trendy'

Bairnswear 1274: Great vintage baby girls dress knitting pattern from 1940s. There are 3 designs for 1-2 years or 20-22 inch chest. There is one called Tosy-turvy has cable stitch to give nice fit at bodice, Jinx has an all over pattern and long sleeves and edge detail. The one on the front model has fair isle bands at hem, waist and cuffs of short puff sleeves. They are all knitted in vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply for sizes stated or 3ply for smaller sizes. So cute.

Bestway 631: Great vintage little girl's dress knitting pattern from 1930s. This cute little dress is knitted in 3ply Shetland wool so try modern fine merino 4ply and change needles to get same tension. The panels of the skirt are embroidered in contrast when finished, edging is crocheted in the contrast too. To fit a 3 year old. There is also a round yoked jumper to fit a 5 year old or 25 inch chest.

Bestway 724: Great vintage knitting pattern for little girl's dress, pixie hood and gloves. The dress is to fit 2-3years old or a 21 inch chest. Vintage 3ply that would have knitted more to a modern 4ply, always work a tension square. The hood and gloves are to fit the same age and the gloves are knitted on two needles. The hood is knitted in similar to modern double knitting, or 4ply for a smaller version.

Bestway 802: Great little vintage knitting patten for baby dress to fit 1, 2 and 3 year old, with puff sleeves and simple stripes and  cute peter pan collar. The stripes are knitted in a large needle and small needle creating a lace stripe. To fit 22-24 inch chest worked in vintage 2ply, so this will be modern 3ply.

This lovely pattern has instructions for this easy to knit dress and simple, button at neck cardigan. Knitted in vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply. Knitted with moss stitch yoke and embroidered panel. The skirt is made of panels of moss and stocking stitch, forming box pleats. The jacket is embroidered round the border and buttons at the neck. Should fit up to a 23 inch chest. From 1-2 years. Copley 576: Fabulous vintage knitting pattern for girl's dress from 1930s. This pattern has instructions for this smart little dress to fit 4-5 years or 25 inch chest. Knitted in vintage 4ply, try modern 4ply in a tension square as needle size suggests this might be okay. Fashionable colours at the time were suggested Chinese Red as the main colour and natural and black at neck and wrist. Very easy to knit this one - great for authenticity for costume in theatre, film, period events and museum displays.

Copleys 3059: Great vintage girl's dress knitting pattern 1940s. This pattern has three different designs to fit 22-23 inch chest, length is adjustable, each design had little puff sleeves and is knitted in vintage 'crycelle' which was similar to modern 4ply, always try a tension square and change needles if needed. Very pretty and very retro.

Golden Eagle 307: Great vintage little girl's dress knitting pattern from 1930s. There are instructions for this cute little number to be knitted in vintage 3ply, always work a tension square, this one may well be knitting in yarn similar to modern 3ply. Nice easy pattern with just a flash of colour at the hem, cuffs, collar and waistline. The tension on this on is 8st to an inch on size 12 imperial needles (2.75mm) and 11 rows to an inch. To fit 5-6 years old no chest measurement given, but probably 25-26 inch chest. Pale green with touches of darker green and pink are suggested. But pink with darker pink and white as a trim might look pretty too.

Greenock 34: Great vintage toddler dress knitting pattern from 1930s . Knitted in vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply for this little dress. Always work a tension square. Nice easy pattern, the delightful scalloped edge is worked separately and joined to dress latter, bodice is worked in moss stitch. To fit toddler, no chest measurement give, but 16 inches in length. Pattern for knickers is included. Probably 20-21 inch chest, seems about average for this type of dress.

Hema 269: Great vintage little girls dress knitting pattern 1920/30s. This lovely pattern is worked in vintage silk and angora yarn, sadly difficult to get, but you can by angora (see links pages) and us a 4ply pure wool - unless you can find a light weight silk yarn - there are some around - look on ebay. But this does knit up well in modern 4ply, just change needles to get the size right. This one fits chest 22 inches and is 16 inches long. The rabbit wool is used after the knitting is finished to edge in crochet and to work the little balls in the squares. You could cast on the sleeves and cast of the neck in rabbit wool if you did not want to do the crochet.

Homecraft 348: Great vintage knitting pattern from 1940s for a little dress. This one is to fit 2-4 years or 21 inch chest and is nicely fitted with set in puff sleeves and pretty vine pattern on the skirt. Knitted in in vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply in a tension square. It is suggested as this is a wartime pattern and austerity measures were in force that an unpicked adult jumper or cardigan was used. It gives instructions on how to treat unpicked wool. This can still work but is best done from a hand made wool garment.

Ino 35: Great vintage little girl's dress knitting pattern from 1930s. This little pattern was a give a way in packets of Ino Washing Flakes. This one is to fit 23 inch chest with 17 inch length. Knitted in a vintage 3ply that would be similar to modern 4ply today or for a smaller size try modern 3ply. Always work a tension square. Great page of washing instructions!

This Pattern is to fit 3-4 years, 24 inch chest and knitted in a silk or cotton yarn that would be similar to a 3ply. There are instructions how to handle silk yarn as it can be difficult and the lustre can be damaged with over handling. A rayon or synthetic silk or lustre cotton of fine ply would work well too. Knitted in similar yarn to modern 4ply, but work a tension square.  Bodice is double breasted with little button and small roll collar and easy one row pattern skirt.

Templetons 231: Great baby vintage knitting pattern 1930s. There are instructions for the dress, 22 inch chest and matching cardigan 23 inch chest, little jersey for boy 23 inch chest, and a little cardigan 22 inch chest. Opalsheen was a baby wool made with rayon mixture that gave the yarn a subtle shine and would have knitted to a modern 4ply, but work a tension square first to check tension - 7st to 1", 8 rows to 1" on size 9 imperial needles (3.75mm).

And is knitted in vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply in a tension square. This is referred to as Bluebell stitch, but I have also seen it called Tulip Stitch. Sooo pretty.

With dainty smocked yoke, so easy to create this effect, it is merely rib and then a few stitches to bring the groups together on alternate rows - very effective, also pretty button detail.
