Fleur Layette:  Great vintage baby layette knitting pattern. I love these layette as you get so many garments in the one pattern for the complete set for baby. Makes a lovely gift and can be added to with other items incorporating the same design. This one is a favourite. This one is to fit 6-12 months and knitted in a fine 4ply or if kitted in a 3ply will come up a little smaller, a change of needles and ply and you have a new born baby size. There are instructions for a vest and knicker combo, beautiful dress, jacket and bonnet with bootees and mittens to complete.

Furida 307:  Fabulous baby bonnet knitting pattern from 1920s. This pattern has two designs and should fit 14 inches from ear to ear over top of head. Knitted in a 4ply angora on 4mm needles. You can line the angora bonnet with silk or cotton using finished knitting as a pattern or knit in modern 4ply wool on a size smaller needles. The wide border of the one on the left has embroidered rose buds - illustration included. There is also a striped beret for an older child included in this one. If a smaller size is required then try using modern 3ply, the coat is in a simple broken double rib pattern.

Golden Eagle879: Fabulous vintage baby knitting pattern for fair isle set from early 1940s. Bonnet and jacket with rabbits on and pom-poms so retro this one, super! Small chart included,  to fit chest 19 inches. Worked in vintage 3ply so try modern 4ply in a tension square and change needles if needed. Where it says to make pompom with cardboard circle the size of a penny remember that an old penny was much bigger than the one we have now, it would be nearer the size of two pound coin.

Greenock B03 Matinee: Great vintage baby knitting pattern for a matinee coat from around 1920 or earlier. This simple to knit jacket is worked in a 3ply, that might work well in a modern fine 4ply. Matinee measures 26 inches around chest before being tightened with draw ribbon. Full, comfy and adaptable little coat for an older baby. I knitted this for an 12 month baby and embroidered little daisies along the bottom and cuffs and added a contrast ribbon. I knitted it in modern 3ply baby wool on size 10 needles.

Greenock 10cr: Lovely vintage crochet pattern from1910 for bonnet, hat and simple matinee to fit 24" chest worked in vintage 3ply, so substitute modern 4ply and work tension sample to see if you need to change size of hook. Use modern 3ply and a smaller hook for smaller size.

vintage baby dress and cardigan set in lacy stitch form 1920s Greenock F13: Fabulous vintage baby dress set knitting design from 1920s. This super little dress and cardigan set is knitted in vintage 3ply but try modern 4ply as tension indicates this ply. For a smaller size try a smaller needle and 3ply. No chest measurement given, but probably 18-20 inch chest as the dress measure 14 inches long. There are also knickers with lace edge to match.

vintage babies parmset 1920s Greenock 25: Great vintage baby pram suit knitting pattern early 1920's. This pattern may be even earlier, there are instructions for the super little hat, coat and legginettes. Knitted in vintage 4ply which knitted to modern double knitting. Chest measurement not given, but can be found out by working a tension square in the yarn that you choose. Coat measures 14 inches from shoulder to hem, so probably a 22-24 inch chest. Lovely pearl buckle (might have one for sale if needed) on hat and pearl buttons on coat.

vintage 1920 knitting pattern for leggings for baby Greenock B24: Great very vintage baby knitting pattern for leggings dating from around 1910-1920. These are both knitted in a 4ply to work out at length from waist to heel of 16.5 inches. On pair had feet the other is gaiter style that would fit over soft shoes. Nice and easy, very basic to knit and essential in the chilly weather.

vintage baby pram set knitting pattern from 1920s Greenock C28: Fabulous vintage baby pram set knitting design from 1920s. There are instructions for a fancy rib coat, see below, cap, gloves and overalls (leggings). All knitted in a 4ply wool for early size or double knitting for a bigger size. There are no chest measurements of tension details for this pattern, which was quite common for early patterns. They do present a challenge, but common sense will prevail - knit a tension square in the yarn and wool you decide on then change needles to get the size you require.

Knitted in either a 4ply or double knitting depending on size needed. Needle size seems to point to a 4ply. Work a tension square and change needles if a smaller or bigger size is needed. The little dress has puff sleeves. and there are some little knickers to match.

Nice easy pattern, the delightful scalloped edge is worked separately and joined to dress latter, bodice is worked in moss stitch. To fit toddler, no chest measurement give, but 16 inches in length. Pattern for knickers is included. Probably 20-21 inch chest, seems about average for this type of dress.

There is crochet around the neck and arm holes, but this can be replaced with picot or row of holes for the ribbons by knitting if preferred. Six sizes given to fit 17inch chest to 27 inch chest. This lovely pattern is pre World War 1, there are instructions for a little jacket or spencer as they were called worked in vintage 2ply, so try modern 3ply in a tension square. The crochet one is for first size 0-3 months and a the knitted one is for 2nd size or 3-6 months. Simple instructions classic, very retro style.

Greenock 65: Lovely very vintage pattern for angora hats for baby 1920s. I love these patterns, this one is from my collection of over 500 from this period - they will eventually appear on site!  This little range of fluffy bonnets is so sweet - possible from the 1920 or even earlier, looking at the styles. I have several of these that made before the Firsts World War in my collection of vintage baby clothes - they are so sweet. They can also be made in modern 4ply yarn. Always work a tension square, although there is not a tension measurement given, you can see the sizes and can work out if you need to change needles to get that size. The smaller size is 14 inches round the face outstretched the older style is 15 inches. Make in 3ply for tiny baby sizes

vintage baby body belts knitting 1920s Greenock 139: Great vintage baby knitting pattern for body belts 1920s or earlier. There are instructions for infants, ladies and mens. At one time these were essential garments - no central heating in those days! Very easy to knit and could be useful today for early or low weight babies to keep them extra warm, for sports men and women for that extra warm layer over the back.

These little jackets were at one time known as spencers and are so referred to in this pattern. There are 5 different designs to fit 20, 21, 22, 24 and 26 inch chest. Some are knitted from the neck down others from the bottom up, but all are knitted in one piece.

Homecraft 370: Fabulous vintage baby crochet pattern 1940s. This pattern has instructions for bib, shoes and beret, fabulous to go with a Christening outfit, boy or girl - all easy to work. This was a wartime pattern, so economy was the key, each item takes 1oz or less that is less than 30g of cotton, if you can get a silky look one (or even real silk) it will look even better. Try no20 in a tension square - tension is 11 trebles to one inch.
